George Jacob Gershwin (1898 -1937)
Gershwin was an American composer and pianist. His musical pieces are both within the popular and the classical genre. The compositions Rhapsody in Blue (1924), An American in Paris (1928) and the opera Porgy and Bess (1935) are all renowned works by Gershwin.
Tip-Toes is a Broadway musical from 1925, based on Guy Bolton and Fred Thompson’s book with lyrics from Ira Gershwin, and music from George Gershwin. The production was led by Andrew Tomber, Lovey Lee, Gertrude MacDonald, Amy Revere and Choir.
Between 1916 and 1927, G. Gershwin recorded 130 pianolla rolls. Parts of the pianolla rolls were transferred to 78 discs, a medium that was much cheaper than the self-playing piano. Today’s piece is one of them.
